MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. --- The Tennessee State men’s golf team came out hot on day two of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship. The Tigers cut four strokes off their team score through the first four holes and moved up to spots in the standings. But TSU was unable to sustain the blistering start and ran into trouble later in the round, as they finished the round with a 17-over, 305.

The Tigers remained in eighth place and are 10 strokes out of the top five. Jacksonville State backed up their day result and has distanced themselves from the rest of the field. The Gamecocks are 1-under after two rounds with a 575 and hold a 10 stroke advantage over second place Eastern Kentucky.

Jermey Fultz and Rosario Falzone each carded a 3-over, 75, on Tuesday to lead the Tigers in scoring. John Tyminski and Scotty Hudson marked for the Big Blue with a 76 and a 79, respectively. Drew Owens missed scoring for the Tigers in round two with an 83.

Fultz completed his day without recording a birdie and paced his play with 15 pars. Falzone recorded the first of three birdies on the day with an approach shot from 125 yards out to seven feet of the pin on Par-4, 4th. The junior moved to 1-under on the seventh hole after knocking his third shot to 10 feet of the hole, setting up his second birdie. Falzone finished strong by sinking a 35 foot putt on No. 17.

Inside the Numbers

  • TSU continues to lead the tournament with 26 birdies.
  • Austin Peay follows TSU with 24.
  • John Tyminski secured four birdies on Tuesday, bringing his two day total to a tournament leading nine.

Up Next: The Tigers will conclude play at the OVC Championship with on Wedmnesday. TSU will be a part of the second pairings to take the course and will be paired with UT Martin and Austin Peay.
