NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State men’s golf team defended its home course on day one of the Big Blue Intercollegiate. The Tigers entered the clubhouse in a tie for second after posting a 10-over, 578, at the President’s Reserves Course at the Hermitage Golf Club. TSU shot a 5-over, 289, during both rounds on Monday and are four strokes behind UT Martin as they head in to the final round of the two day event.

John Tyminski (70-71) carded a 1-under, 141 and sits in third place, one stroke behind co-leaders Nick Wolf and Hunter Richardson, both of UT Martin. Drew Owens rebounded from a 5-over, 76, during the morning round to fire a 4-under, 67. Owens used the afternoon effort to jump 31 spots to fourth place and is three shots off the lead.

Scotty Hudson is in 10th place, paced by a 2-under, 69, during the first round, which had him in second after the first 18 holes. Hudson is still in contention despite posting a 76 in the afternoon and will head into Tuesday’s round five strokes out of first.

Jermey Fultz joined Tyminski, Owens and Hudson by scoring in both rounds for the Tigers Fultz shot a 3-over, 74, during the first round and a 4-over, 75, in the second. The senior is 7-over after 36 holes and in 25th place in the field of 81 golfers.

Kody Rendleman (84-76=160) matched Hudson with a 76 in the second round, but just missed out on posting a scoring round.

The Tigers placed four golfers in the top 10 through two rounds. Jay Grove, playing as an individual, used a 3-under, 69, during the afternoon session to move up 15 spots to eighth place. Grove, playing in just his third event this year, is four strokes out of the top honors position.

Sam Gatlin and Rosario Falzone, like Grove, played as individuals. Gatlin entered the clubhouse with a 9-over, 151, finishing one stroke ahead of Falzone, who highlighted his day by draining a 35-foot putt for birdie on No. 2 during the first round.
