SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State men’s golf team got off to a fast start on day one of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech. The Tigers teamed to fire a 5-over, 293, which is good for a tie for fourth in the 14 team field.

Scotty Hudson and John Tyminski lead the way as they are both in the top 10 after the first 18 holes. Hudson is in a four-way tie for third after carding a 2-under, 70, and is two strokes behind the leader, Alex Weiss of Marshall.

Hudson stayed consistent through the day finishing with 14 pars, three birdies and only one bogey. The junior was efficient as he found 9-of-14 fairways, hit 17-of-18 greens in regulation and used 36 putts.

Tyminski trails Hudson by one stroke as he is one of four golfers who entered the clubhouse with a 1-under, 71, on Sunday.

Senior Jermey Fultz is within striking distance after firing a 2-over, 74, placing him in a tie for 26th heading into the second round. Drew Owens followed with 6-over, 78, as he claimed the last scoring position for TSU. Kody Rendleman posted a non-scoring 82 during the first session.

In the team standing, the Tigers are tied with Evansville and are three strokes behind the duo of Marshall and Austin Peay, who are tied for second. Ohio Valley Conference foe, Eastern Kentucky, leads after day one with a 1-under, 287.

The Tigers take to the course at 10:00 a.m. ET on Monday for day two of the three day event. Scotty Hudson will start at hole No. 4, while John Tyminski and Jermey Fultz start on No. 5. Kody Rendleman and Drew Owens will each start at No. 6.
