MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State men’s golf team closed out the fall portion of the 2017-18 season with a seventh place finish at the MTSU Intercollegiate. The Tigers (311-298=610) struggled through the first 18 holes, but bounced back in round two cutting 13 strokes and moving up two spots, passing UT Martin and Belmont.

Scotty Hudson paced the Tigers throughout the tournament placing eighth with a 2-over, 146. Hudson moved up to as high as third during the second round. John Tyminski (82-74=156) and Kody Rendleman (79-77=156) both scored for the Tigers during both rounds. Drew Owens posted a countable score in the first round, while Jermey Fultz scored in the second.

Rosario Falzone finished 25th with a 7-over, 151, playing as an individual. Sam Gatlin also, playing as an individual, fired a 163.

Jermey Fultz (Started on Hole 5)

  • Chopped 15 strokes off of first round
  • Recorded three birdies in the morning session
  • Pared 15 of the first 17 holes of round two
  • Birdied the final hole of the day, the par-4, 4th

John Tyminski (Hole 6)

  • Cut eight strokes from the morning round
  • Started second round at 4-over through 11 holes
  • Caught fire with five pars and three birdies over the next eight holes

Scotty Hudson (Hole 7)

  • Bogeyed the second hole of the day before recording nine consecutive pars
  • Birdied two of the final seven holes to finish Even in round one
  • Notched four birdies on round two
  • Remained Even until the final two holes of the tournament
  • Hit five approach shots to under five feet on the day

Kody Rendleman (Hole 7)

  • Birdied three holes in the morning session
  • Had back-to-back birdies on No. 9 and No. 10 to begin the afternoon session at 2-under through the first five holes
  • Birdied the final hole of the day, the par-5, 6th

Drew Owens (Hole 8)

  • Chipped in for birdie from just off the green on the second hole of the day, the par-4, 9th
  • Birdied the par-5, 2nd, by reaching the green in two with a shot from the bunker, 230 yards out
  • Two putted for birdie
  • Was Even through the first nine holes of the second round
  • Birdie No. 9 for the second consecutive round
  • Hit a 58-degree from the tall grass/hazard to 10 feet of the hole

Rosario Falzone (I) (Hole 13)

  • Closed out round one with pars on nine of the final 10 holes, including seven consecutive
  • Cut five strokes from the morning session
  • Picked up three birdies during the second round
  • Opened the second round with a bogey on No. 13
  • Carded six pars before first birdie of the day
  • Was 1-under through 14 holes
  • Hit 30 yard wedge over the bunker to eight feet on the par-5, 2nd
  • Knocked a wedge from 107 yards to 12 feet on the par-4, 4th
  • Earned final birdie of the day with a 35 foot putt on the par-4, 7th

Sam Gatlin (I) (Hole 14)

  • Cut five strokes off of first round score
  • Notched a birdie on the fourth hole of the day, the par-3, 17th
  • Hit 5-iron to eight feet before sinking the putt
  • During round two, knocked a wedge shot to a foot of the flag
  • Sank putt for lone birdie of the afternoon session
  • Opened and the closed the final 18 with three consecutive pars

UP NEXT: The Tigers will begin the Spring season on Mar. 12 at the Grover Page Classic. The UT Martin event will be played at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn.
