--- Jermey Fultz used three birdies to secure a 1-under, 71, on the first day of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course. Fultz opened the day with back-to-back bogeys before charging back to grab a share of seventh place and sits four strokes off the lead. Charles Seals of Tennessee Tech and Bobby Hayes of Jacksonville State are co-leaders after firing a 5-under, 67, on the first day of the three day event.

Fultz was 2-over heading to the par-3, 5th. The junior hit a 6-iron off the tee box to 10 feet of the flag and sank the putt for his first birdie of the day and cutting his score to 1-over. Fultz stayed solid with six consecutive pars before dropping a 12-foot putt on the par-5, 12th, to move to Even, where he stayed for the next three holes. The Knoxville, Tenn. product once again sank a 12-foot putt for birdie, this time on the par-4, 16th, to drop to 1-under.

Kody Rendleman and Drew Owens each entered the clubhouse with an 8-over, 80, and are tied for 45th in the field of 55. Rosario Falzone recorded the final countable score for the Tigers with a 9-over, 81. Falzone started fast as he hit an 8-iron on his approach shot on the par-4, 1st, to 12 feet of the pin to set up his lone birdie of the day. Senior Todd McGill rounded out play for TSU with a non-countable 84.

The Tigers combined for a 24-over, 312, and are 10th heading into the second round. TSU is seven strokes behind ninth placed Belmont.

McGill will take to the course first at 8:00 a.m. for the Tigers on Tuesday morning. Falzone will head out at 8:10 a.m. and will be followed by Owens at 8:20 a.m., Rendleman at 8:30 a.m. and Fultz at 8:40 a.m.
