Final Results

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s golf teamed to shoot a 19-over, 307 on the final day of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech. The Tigers finished 12th with a 62-over, 926 for the three day event.

After a 5-over, 77, performance on Monday, Jermey Fultz charged back with a 2-under, 70, on Tuesday. The 70 was the best round of the day and was matched by Tennessee Tech’s Neal Gannaway. The outing by Fultz allowed him to jump 15 spots in the standings, placing him fourth for the tournament.

Preston French of Murray State won top honors with a 3-under, 213, five strokes better than Fultz at 2-over, 218.

Fultz (71-77-70=218) hit 9-of-14 fairways during the final round and 10 greens, while earning four birdies on the day. The sophomore hit 5-iron from 215 yards out to 10 feet, along him to two putt for his first birdie of the day on the on the par-5, 3rd. Fultz then birdied the par-4, 12th as he hit wedge to three feet of the pin from 50 yards away.

Fultz continued his solid play on the par-4, 16th, by hitting an 8-iron from 163 yards to 10 feet of the hole, setting up yet another birdie putt. His final birdied came on the par-3, 17th, as he converted on a two foot putt.

After struggling for the first two rounds, Todd McGill fired a 2-over, 74, on Tuesday. McGill paced his play with an eagle and a pair of birdies. The junior hit a 5-iron to within four feet of the flag setting an easy putt to cut two strokes off his score.

McGill (80-82-74=236) registered his first birdie of the round on the par-4, 18th, as he hit a wedge to 30 feet before knocking down the long putt. On the par-5, 10th, McGill set himself up with a wedge shot for a six foot putt for his final birdie of the day.

The Tigers received scoring performances from Sam Gatlin and Blake Burgett with a 81 and 82, respectively. Drew Owens shot a non-scoring 83 for TSU during the final round.

The Tigers will next be in action on Apr. 11-12 as they host the Big Blue Intercollegiate at Hermitage Golf Club.
