Freshman Rosario Falzone recorded his first Top-20 finish

BUCHANAN, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s golf team finished fifth at the Skyhawk Fall Classic at Paris Landing State Park on Tuesday. The Tigers closed with a 21-over, 309 and completed the 54-hole two-day event at 47-over, 911.

Alabama State topped the 11-team field at 846, seven strokes ahead of host UT Martin.

Senior Todd McGill and freshman Rosario Falzone paced TSU. McGill carded a 1-under, 71, on Tuesday and placed 17th at 6-over, 222. Falzone continued his consistent play firing a 3-over, 75, after a pair of 74’s on day one. The first-year finished 19th at 7-over, 223.

McGill recorded five birdies during the final round highlighted by a chip-in from the left side of the green on No. 9. The Knoxville, Tenn. native produced back-to-back birdies beginning on No. 5 with a 20-foot putt and followed on the next hole on a five-footer. On No. 11, McGill used an 8-iron from the fairway to seven feet of the cup and earned another 1-under as he reached the green on his second shot with a 7-wood on the pat-5, 16th, and used two putts to birdie.

Falzone hit 10 fairways and found 11 greens on Tuesday. The Nashville product used a flop shot over the bunker to eight feet on the par-5, 3rd, setting up his lone birdie of the day.

Drew Owens scored for the Tigers with an 80 during the final round hitting just four fairways and registered two birdies.

Sam Gatlin recorded the final countable score for TSU with an 83 as he hit six fairways, nine greens in regulation and used 32 putts.

Senior Blake Burgett shot a non-countable 85 and hit seven fairways and 10 greens on Tuesday. Burgett sank a 10-foot putt on No. 9 and a 20-footer on No. 17 for birdies.

The Tigers will close out the fall portion of its schedule on Oct. 20, at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate in Hopkinsville, Ky.
