Lightning Forces Stoppage at OVC Championships, TSU Finishes 11th
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Lightning and rain fall ended the Ohio Valley Conference golf championships early for the second consecutive year. The final round started under calm playing conditions but the round was stopped at 12:02pm for lightning, which led to a 1-hour, 34-minute weather delay. The teams returned to play until lightning caused a second stoppage at 2:49pm. Four groups who were not able to complete nine holes, reverting the final standings back to the 36-hole total at the end of Saturday’s play.
Tennessee State and Morehead State were the only teams to have all five players finish all 18 holes on day three at the Par-72, 7,187 yard Fighting Joe course at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala. But due to the stoppage of play, Sunday’s play was not counted for either team.
Jacksonville State claimed the team title, while Austin Peay’s Marco Iten garnered individual honors. The Tigers finished 11th.
The OVC Championships closed out play for the Tigers for the 2013-14 season and marked the final time seniors Andrew Warner and Codie Welborn would take to the course for TSU.
