Men Complete Play at Grover Page Classic
JACKSON, Tenn. – The men’s golf team opened the spring season at the 2014 Grover Page Classic hosted by UT Martin. The two-day, 54-hole event took place at the par-72, 6,783 yard, Jackson Country Club.
 
Tennessee State (311-313-308=932) finished 12th, 76 strokes off the pace of tournament winner, Lipscomb. Andrew Warner and James Stepp led the way for the Tigers.
 
Warner (75-80-72=227) shot the third lowest score, 72, during Tuesday’s round to finish the classic 11-over and placed in a tie for 35th. Warner concluded play with an eagle to his credit. Stepp (77-74-77=228) finished one stroke behind Warner and shot a team best 2-over, 74, during the second round of the tournament. The junior carded 11 birdies over the past two days.
 
Dallas Hill (78-80-80=238) scored for the Tigers during the first and third rounds. Codie Welborn (81-80-83=244) put up countable scores during the first two rounds and Shane Sampair (87-79-79=245) scored for TSU over the final two rounds.
 
The Tigers will be back on the links on Mar. 17-18 as they take part in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event hosted by Tennessee Tech will be held in Sevierville, Tenn.
