Men's golf begins spring action at Grover Page Classic

Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University men's golf team will begin the 2012 spring season on Monday, March 12 at the sixth-annual Grover Page Classic hosted by UT Martin in Jackson, Tenn.

The tournament, played at the par-72, 6,783-yard course, will feature a field of 12 teams including: Bethel, Jackson State CC, John A. Logan CC. Lipscomb, Morehead State, Murray State, Nicholls State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Union University and UT Martin.

The first two rounds will be played Monday, followed by the third round which will start Tuesday morning.

Last year, Tennessee State picked up a sixth place finish at the Grover Page Classic with a team score of 901 (300-303-298). The Tigers were led by Ryan Smith who picked up a top 10 finish with a 4-over par 220 overall. Smith tied in 8th place, shooting a 74 in the opening round while carding a 77 and 69 in rounds two and three.

TSU had five other players in the field, including Richard Gill who tied for 22nd and shot an 8-over par 224 (77-74-73). Ryan Pierson tied in 36th carding a 228 (73-78-77). Cameron Scitern registered a 233 (76-74-83) for the tournament while Andrew Warner carded 234 (77-78-79). Codie Welborn rounded out the scores for the Tigers with a 237 (80-80-77) overall score.

Murray State claimed the Grover Page Classic title in 2011.
