Men's golf end Rees Jones Intercollegiate in 7th place finish

Daufuskie Island, S.C. --- The Tennessee State University men's golf team placed seventh at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate.

In a field of 10 teams, Tennessee State shot an 82-over par 946 (323-316-307) overall. The Tigers were led by senior Ryan Smith who picked up a top 10 finish with an 11-over par 227. Smith finished in 8th place, shooting a 75 in the opening round while carding a 77 and 75 in rounds two and three.

TSU had four other players in the field, including senior Richard Gill who tied for 21st and shot a 19-over par 235 (78-80-77). Freshman Andrew Warner registered a 240 (86-79-75) for the tournament while Ryan Pierson and junior Dorian Vauls carded 245 (85-80-80) and 252 (85-81-86), respectively. 

The tournament, hosted by Michigan State at the Haig Point Club on Daufuskie Island, S.C., was won by Liberty University and Kennesaw State, who both tied shooting an overall score of 902.

San Jose  State finished second with a 48-over 912 while Wofford College rounded out the top three with a 60-over 924.

Next, the Tigers will travel to Austin Peay for the F&M Bank Intercollegiate (Oct. 17-19) in Clarksville, Tenn.
