TSU Golf: Men third, women eighth, in fall season opener

Montgomery, Ala. --- The men and women's golf team opened the fall season at the annual ASU Fall Golf Classic hosted by Alabama State University at the Lagoon Park Golf Course. The men placed fourth overall while the women earned eighth place.

Alabama State (299, 294 - 593 +17) earned the team title for the men with Faulkner (295, 300 - 595 +19) and West Georgia (294, 302 - 596 +20) following in second and third respectively.

Shorter (324, 312 - 636 +60) and Alabama State (326, 310 - 636 +60) tied for first with Faulkner (337, 319 - 656 +80) and Mobile (329, 345 - 674 +98) following.

TSU's men shot a total of 307 in the first round while shooting 304 in the second round totaling an overall score of 611 (35-over-par). The women as a team shot both rounds at 380 totaling a score of 760 (184-over-par).

Dorian Vauls and Ryan Pierson both tied for 16th place posting identical scores of 152 overall finishing 8-over par to lead the Tigers. Vauls shot 78 in the first round before registering a 74 in the second round. Pierson shot 74 in the first before closing with a 78.

Jamie Pierce was TSU's  top finisher on the women side registering a 10th place finish while shooting an 82, then ending with a 81 in the second round for a total score of 163.

Next, the women will travel to Chicago State University competing at the Chicago State Invitational (Sept. 19-21) while the men will head to Atlanta for the National Black College Hall of Fame (Sept. 24-26).
