MCCALLA, Ala. --- The Tennessee State golf came back to shoot the best round in the final day of competition, but came up short in its rally to finish second in Birmingham Southern's Buffalo Rock/Southern Showdown that concluded Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers had a final round 282 after shooting a 291 on the opening day to finish with 573. Troy State held on to win the title with a 569. The Tigers finished one shot ahead of Ohio Valley Conference rival Tennessee Tech. A total of 15 teams competed in the event held on the par-72 6,934-yard course in suburban Birmingham. TSU placed three golfers in the top 10. Mark Searle finished one shot out for medalist honors with a five-under par 139. Mercer's Jason Henley shot a 138. Robert Dinwiddie was in a three-way for third with a 144 while Stu Michaels shot a two-under 142 to finish in a tie for eighth. Other TSU teams scores were Phillip Watkins 154 and Jordan Roberts 156. Fraser Inglis, competing as an individual, was 20th with a 146. Mercer was fourth with a 575, Belmont 579, Birmingham Southern 582, Centenary 583, New Orleans 589, Kennesaw State 592, Tennessee-Martin 593, Nichols State 598 and Samford 598, Birmingham Southern II 598, Jackson State 602, and Montevallo 626.
