NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State junior golfer Robert Dinwiddie has received an invitation to compete in the NCAA East Regional Tournament to be hosted by Yale University. The NCAA Division I Men's Selection Committee made the announcement. Dinwiddie is the first TSU golfer to receive the honor and the invitation is based on his outstanding performances this spring. The tournament will be held May 20-22 and will be played on the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. He is one of six student-athletes who will be competing as individuals at the East Regional. "Naturally, I am very excited that Robert was selected for this honor as he has worked very hard to get to this point in his career," said TSU head coach, Dr. Catana Starks. "The honor really does a lot for our golf program. Hopefully this will help in brining other talented golfers to our program." Dinwiddie led the Ohio Valley Conference in stroke average per round this spring at 70.9. He has named to both the All-Ohio Valley Conference and All-OVC Tournament teams. Dinwiddie was medalist in the Samford and Belmont tournaments and third in the OVC Championships. He finished second in the National Minority Tournament held last weekend in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Dinwiddie was twice named OVC Golfer of the Week and also was Golfweek National Player of the Week during the course of the season. Three regional tournaments, encompassing the current nine regions will be played. A total of 27 teams and six individuals have been selected for each regional competition with 10 teams and two individuals advancing from each regional to the NCAA National Championships to be held in Hot Springs, Va. in June.
