WOMEN (5K): 5 p.m. | MEN (5K): 5:30 p.m.
STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State men’s and women’s cross country teams officially kick off the 2018 season at the Belmont Opener on Friday evening at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. The women’s 5K will get underway at 5 p.m. followed by the men’s 5K at 5:30 p.m.
ABOUT THE TEAMS: The top performers for both the men’s and women’s teams are back for TSU with another year of experience. For the men, Marcus Abdul posted TSU’s best time in the 2017 season opener before Larry McNary was TSU’s top performer in the final four meets last fall. Both are back as sophomores in 2018. On the women’s side, sophomore Rebekah Wynn is back in the fold after posting TSU’s top finishes in all five meets in 2017 as a freshman.
FAMILIAR COURSE: TSU’s first two meets of the season – Belmont Opener (Aug. 31) and Commodore Classic (Sept. 15) will be held at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. Tennessee State did not run at the location in 2017, but competed there at least once in the previous six seasons.
SCHEDULE: The Tigerbelles and Flying Tigers will compete in four meets before the Ohio Valley Conference Championship on Oct. 27 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. After the first two meets in Nashville, TSU is set to head to Clarksville for the Sept. 22 Austin Peay Cross Country Festival before the Oct. 6 Fast Cats Classic in Owensboro, Ky.
UP NEXT: TSU returns to Percy Warner Park on Sept. 15 to compete in the Commodore Classic.
