Prince Paces Flying Tigers in Louisville


LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Tennessee State men’s cross country team placed 40th in the 8K Blue Race at the Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic on Saturday at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park highlighted by an 86th place finish from Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.).

Prince, who is the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Male Runner of the Week, clocked in at 26:46.73 as the Flying Tigers finished with 1,108 points.

Jontue McDowell (Jacksonville, Fla.) ran a time of 30:58.37 for the second best time on the team on the day. McDowell was followed by Zebedee Lunsford (Anniston, Ala.) in 31:44.44 for third on the team.

The battle for fourth and fifth among TSU runners came down to the wire as Zyhir Baker-Elam (Philadelphia, Pa.) edged Deontae Henderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) by the slightest of margins. Baker-Elam posted a 31:55.34 finish with Henderson coming in at 31:56.63.

Up next, TSU will compete in the OVC Championship on Oct. 29 at Percy Warner Park.
