Cross Country Opens Training for 2013 Season
Friday, August 23, 2013
Nashville, Tenn. – Head Coach Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice and the men’s and women’s cross country teams opened practice today for the 2013 season. Both teams will compete in five meets in preparation for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships to be held on Nov. 2 in Morehead, Ky. The Tigerbelles have also scheduled a dual meet for Sept. 20 on the TSU campus with Alabama A&M.
“We are excited to be back for our first day of training,” Cheeseborough-Guice said. “We have some new people who have joined the Tiger men and the Tigerbelles and we are excited about this year. We are not known as a cross country team and have been predicted to finish 11th. I don’t want to finish last in the OVC so look for us to knock someone off. I know we focus on sprints and hurdles, but we are still here to compete.”
The two teams will compete on Friday, Aug. 30 in the Belmont Opener before traveling to run in the Bobby Lang Invitational hosted by Florida A&M on Sept. 7. The Tigers and Tigerbelles return to Nashville for the Commodore Classic on Sept. 14.
“The schedule is a little tougher,” Cheeseborough-Guice stated. “We are excited though as we open with Belmont and then travel to Tallahassee to compete against FAMU and other schools from down in the Florida area. We are going to put a good team out there and we are going to be positive.”
The Belmont Opener will be held at Percy Warner Park in Nashville and will begin at 5:30 pm.
