Carr, Hobbs lead TSU XC Teams at Vanderbilt

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University Flying Tigers and Tigerbelles completed their second cross country meet of the season at the Commodore Classic on Saturday morning.

Freshman Leah Carr led the TSU women, while Chris Hobbs notched his sixth consecutive top-time for the men.

Overall, Tennessee State placed 21st in the women's 5K, while the men earned 20th in the 8K at Vaughn's Gap Cross Country Course.

Alabama claimed the women's title with 45 total points and Cincinnati won the men's event with 75 points.

Hobbs paced a time of 29:03.30 in the men's 8K to place 135th in a field of 190 runners. Desmond Trice followed at 147th with a mark of 29:49.00. Jonathan Owens finished third for the Flying Tigers, clocking 30:04.50 (151st).

Bryan Herrera (30:27.00, 161st), Jamil Jackson (31:14.20, 170th) and Adrian McDaniel (32:00.20, 174th) completed the next three finishes for Tennessee State.

Donnie Johnson and Jaheleel Michael completed with race with earned times of 32:14.80 (175th) and 32:59.80 (179th), respectively.

Carr earned her consecutive top-finish for the Tigerbelles, posting a mark of 22:31.20 to earn 149th overall.

Sophomores Charita Harris and Tiffany Harris finished the course in 22:35.30 (151st) and 23:18.30 (161st), respectively.

Finishing fourth in the 5K, junior Gabrielle Todd inked a time of 24:32.30 (171st). Kya Riley (182nd) closed out the meet for TSU, notching a run of 25:49.50.

Tennessee State takes a week breather before taking part in the Tennessee Tech Invitational on Friday, Sept. 30.
