Ed Pipes joined the Tennessee State men’s basketball coaching staff in the fall of 2007.

Pipes, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, came to the Tiger program after serving as the citywide sports coordinator for the Chicago Public Schools.

Pipes is a 1978 graduate of Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond Oklahoma. He was the starting point guard on teams that compiled an overall record of 68-7 from 1976 through 1978.

Pipes began his coaching career at Wyoming High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1984 as the assistant varsity coach. He also served as a volunteer coach at the University of Cincinnati, where he met TSU assistant coach Mark Pittman. He also volunteered his services at Xavier (OH) where he completed his Masters degree in Sports Administration (1993).

After Xavier, he became an assistant coach at Lake City Community College from 1993-95. From 1995-96 he was the assistant coach at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. In 1996 he was named head men’s coach at that school, a position he held until 2003. He still remains the winningest coach in that school’s history.

He has worked with the US Virgin Islands National Team with Tevester Anderson from 2005-2007.

Pipes has two sons, Evan and Eliot, and resides in Nashville.
