Men's Basketball Signs Shakwon Barrett

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State men’s basketball Head Coach Brian “Penny” Collins announced the signing of Shakwon Barrett (Toronto, Ontario) on Thursday. Barrett marks the third addition to the Tigers' 2020-21 roster. Local point guard Marcus Fitzgerald and junior-college phenom Yusuf Mohamed were signed during the early period.

  • Spent last season at Northwest Florida State averaging 8.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 25.1 minutes per game
  • Shot 33.8 percent from the field, 28 percent from beyond the arc and 72.7 percent from the free throw line
  • Averaged 4.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists in 21.6 minutes per 31 games, with 15 starts as a sophomore
  • Shot 35.7 percent from the field
  • Had his career game against UT Martin where he scored a career-high 26 points, adding three assists and five rebounds
  • At Tech Academy in Toronto, Ontario, averaged 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals per game while shooting 88 percent at the free throw line and 40 percent beyond the 3-point arc
  • Competed on the AAU circuit for Grassroots Canada under head coach Ro Russell
  • Played two years at Findlay Prep in Nevada in 2015 and 2016, helping the Pilots to a 28-2 overall record and an appearance in the 2016 Dick’s Sporting Goods High School National Tournament
