NASHVILLE --- In preparation for his third season at the helm of the Tennessee State men's basketball team, head coach Brian "Penny" Collins announced the Tigers' participation in a multi-team event with Virginia Tech, George Washington and Marshall Monday morning.
The road series will kick off in Washington, D.C. at George Washington University Nov. 20, then make its way down the coast to Virginia Tech for a Monday night game in Cassell Coliseum Nov. 23. Big Blue will end its trip at MarshallThundering Herd's home Nov. 25.
The Tigers are 1-1 in the all-time series with George Washington with its first meeting occuring thirty years ago on Dec. 5, 1980 at Murray State. TSU won the first matchup 69-58, but fell to GWU 12 years later in 1992, 83-63. Virginia Tech leads the series 0-1 after a loss at Tech Dec. 13, 1986, 67-65, and Marshall leads 0-1 after the Tigers fell to the Herd 74-60, Dec. 28, 2008.
With the Tigers returning 11-of-its-15 squad members, Collins is looking forward to improving upon his 18-win season with the addition of five newcomers in Marcus Fitzgerald, Jr., Yusuf Mohamed, Shakwon Barrett, Josh Linder and Evan Joyner.
