NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University men's basketball point guard Mark Freeman broke into the record book in his first season in blue and white thanks to his ability to see the court and make plays, helping the Memphis-native record 131 assists as a freshman.
He is now tied for tenth in single-season assists with Reiley Ervin (2006-07). His efforts surpassed that of Armani Chaney who led the team in assists for the past two seasons (73 [2018-19] and 111 [2017-18]).
The Tiger led TSU in assists and ranked fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference in season-assists, fifth in assists per game (4.2).
Freeman notched a season-high nine assists at Eastern Kentucky and registered six+ assists 10 times over the course of the season.
If the point guard continues, he could surpass the current TSU career-assists record holder Tremain Smith (1985-89).
