2018-19 Men's Basketball Season In Review

  • The Tennessee State men’s basketball team finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-21 overall record including a 6-12 mark in Ohio Valley Conference regular season games.
  • The Tigers finished the season with 70 dunks, 28 from senior Stokley Chaffee, Jr., 23 from junior-college transfer Emmanuel Egbuta and 12 from Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey.
  • Redshirt junior guard Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey earned Second Team All-OVC honors and BOXTOROW’s Second Team All-America.
  • It is the fourth year in a row TSU has won a major award and placed at least one player on the All-Conference team.
  • TSU won two OVC weekly awards: Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey earned Newcomer of the Week – Nov. 12 after putting up 26 points in his TSU debut at Lipscomb and again Dec. 17 by scoring 23 points versus NC A&T.
  • Senior Armani Chaney ended the season ranked fourth among active players in the OVC in steals with 113 and fifth in assists with 265.
  • The team’s game versus Fisk placed TSU in the record books for the season, putting up 19 3-pointers, ranking 19th in the nation, and grabbed 59 rebounds ranking them 24th in the nation, first in the OVC.
  • Big Blue averaged 15.1 forced turnovers per game, placing them 42nd in the country.
  • Tripp Davis increased his points per game from 0.9 in his sophomore season to 7.8 as a junior. 
  • The Tigers finished the season 2-1 against fellow HBCU's, defeating Fisk and Coppin State. 
  • Stokley Chaffee, Jr. notched two double-doubles: 10 points, 10 rebounds at Western Kentucky and 12 points, 10 rebounds versus SIU-Edwardsville. 
  • Kamar McKnight posted a 30-point game versus Western Kentucky, the first of his career and the highest scoring game by an individual this season.
  • Tennessee State appeared on SEC Network at Vanderbilt Dec. 29, 2018 and ESPN3 at Memphis Dec. 22, 2018 and again at Eastern Kentucky, Feb. 9, 2019.
