OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men’s basketball team heads to Cookeville for a rematch against Tennessee Tech after a heartbreaking loss at home to open league play. Tipoff is set for Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee State split the second week of conference play, garnering its first OVC win over Eastern Kentucky, 82-81 Thursday, Jan. 10. The win marked the first Divison I and confernce win under head coach Brian “Penny” Collins.    

Kamar McKnight led the Tigers for the second time last week, scoring 19 points in the Saturday night 74-61 loss to Morehead State. Armani Chaney was the sole Tiger to register an assist, and tied for his season-high six, while leading TSU for the ninth time this season. Stokley Chaffee, Jr. tied for his season-high four blocks. MSU scored 21 points off of TSU’s 20 turnovers. Big Blue had 42 points in the paint, and had 35 points off the bench. TSU scored 42 points in the second half.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 32-35 in the all-time series against the Golden Eagles. 

When taking on the Golden Eagles in Cookeville, TSU is 1-3 in the last four years and 14-18 in the all-time series at Tennessee Tech. TSU and TTU met just fourteen days ago at the Gentry Center.

NATIONALLY RANKED: The Tigers are ranked top 100 in the nation in one category:

  • 34 in turnovers forced (245 on the season)
    • 26 vs. Carver and at Memphis
  • 55 in steals per game
    • double-digit steals in five games this season
  • 76 in total steals
    • 128 on the season
