OPENING TIP: The TSU men’s basketball team officially opens the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Lipscomb. It will mark the first regular season game of the Brian “Penny” Collins era.

LAST TIME OUT: Seven Tigers scored in double figures to lead TSU to a 107-72 exhibition game victory over Tennessee Wesleyan at the Gentry Center on Oct. 31. Ole Miss transfer Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey led all scorers with 21 points on the night, while redshirt junior guard Tripp Davis notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

LAST SEASON VS. LIPSCOMB: In a game that went down to the wire, TSU fell to Lipscomb by a 95-86 margin in last year’s meeting at the Gentry Center. Down by two in the waning seconds of regulation, then-senior Delano Spencer hit a layup to level the score at 77-77 and TSU’s defense came up with a stop on Lipscomb’s ensuing possession to force overtime. The Bisons outscored TSU by an 18-9 margin in the five-minute overtime period.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 3-5 in the all-time series versus Lipscomb. The Tigers had won two in a row over Lipscomb before last year’s loss. The series dates back to the first meeting in 1992.

ABOUT LIPSCOMB: The Bisons, ranked 22nd in the Mid-Major Poll, won the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship to earn an NCAA Tournament berth a year ago. Lipscomb is 1-0 on the season after a 97-53 win over Sewanee on Nov. 6.

LIPSCOMB CONNECTION: TSU Head Coach Brian “Penny” Collins played for current Lipscomb Head Coach Casey Alexander when Alexander was an assistant coach at Belmont. The two helped lead Belmont to the NIT in 2004 and the NCAA Tournament in 2006.

UP NEXT: TSU hosts Little Rock on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Gentry Center. The game, which is the home opener for TSU, will air live on ESPN+ and on the radio on 102.1 The Ville.
