2018-19 TSU Men's Basketball Preview - Guards and Wings

PHOTO GALLERY previews the upcoming Tennessee State men’s basketball season with a three-part series highlighting point guards, wings/guards and post players. The season begins with a home exhibition game on Oct. 31 versus Tennessee Wesleyan before officially getting underway at Lipscomb on Nov. 10.

NASHVILLE --- The guards and wings bring versatility to the 2018-19 Tennessee State men’s basketball roster. The talented group will allow first-year Head Coach Brian “Penny” Collins to play multiple lineup combinations and styles.

The group is headlined by the leading scorer among TSU’s returners, Kamar McKnight. Now in his second year in the program, the redshirt-junior scored 8.5 points per game and had 14 games with 10 or more points for the Tigers in 2017-18.

Other returners include Daniel Cummings and Jalen Duke. Cummings played in 22 games with four starts last year as a redshirt freshman. He posted 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. Duke, a local product from Nashville, is in his fourth season with the program after putting up 1.7 points per game as a redshirt sophomore last year.

Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey sat out last season at TSU after transferring from Ole Miss. The 6’4 guard put up 24 points per game as a senior at Southwind High School in Memphis and posted 2.5 points per game in 43 career appearances with Ole Miss.

Newcomers for the group are Damarri Moore and Monty Johal. Moore played for current TSU assistant Jerry Nichols when the two were at Southwest Tennessee Community College. The versatile wing averaged 5.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in junior college last year. Johal set the all-time scoring record for Springfield Missouri public school players with more than 2,500 career points.
