OPENING TIP: Winners of three of the last four games, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team hits the road for Ohio Valley Conference tests at Morehead State on Feb. 1 and Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 3. The Tigers are coming off back-to-back wins over SIUE and Eastern Illinois entering Thursday night’s game.

AWARDS: After averaging 26.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in wins over SIUE and Eastern Illinois, Christian Mekowulu earned adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week and BOXTOROW National Player of the Week. Mekowulu is averaging 15.4 points per game in OVC games this season.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU earned a hard-fought 50-47 victory over Eastern Illinois at the Gentry Center on Saturday night. Christian Mekowulu secured his seventh career double-double with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds. TSU held EIU to 29.2 percent shooting on the night and outrebounded the Panthers by a 32-27 margin. For the second game in a row, TSU held its opponent to 19 points in the first half.

ABOUT MORHEAD STATE: The Eagles are 6-15 overall and 2-8 in Ohio Valley Conference games. Coming off a 92-76 loss to Austin Peay, Morehead State has four players averaging double-digit points led by Jordan Walker’s 11.5 points per game.

LAST SEASON VERSUS MOREHEAD STATE: TSU and Morehead State split last year’s meetings with both teams winning at home. In the first matchup in Morehead, Ky., Treshaad Williams finished a layup with 3.7 seconds left to give the Eagles an 87-85 win on Jan. 14, 2017. In the game in Nashville on Feb. 16, 2017, then-senior Wayne Martin led the Tigers with 15 points and 12 rebounds in a 64-52 TSU win.

ALL-TIME SERIES: TSU is 32-37 in the all-time series versus Morehead State. The Tigers are looking for their first road win in the series since Feb. 27, 2014.
