OPENING TIP: The Tennessee State men's basketball team kicks off Ohio Valley Conference play with one of the conference's most storied programs in Murray State on Saturday morning. The game will begin at 11 a.m. and will air on the CBS Sports Network.

ABOUT MURRAY STATE: The Racers are 6-8 on the season, most recently defeating Brescia on Dec. 29. Murray State, which has won 15 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championships, is led in scoring by Jonathan Stark (20.6 ppg). 

LAST TIME OUT: TSU defeated Division III Covenant, 81-50, on Dec. 27 at the Gentry Center to improve to 9-3. Darreon Reddick (Belleville, Ill.) scored a season-high 17 points behind a career-best five made threes. Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds. TSU forced 26 turnovers and held Covenant to 35.6 percent shooting.

IN THE NATION: TSU is ranked 13th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.375) and 13th in turnovers forced (17.17 per game). The Tigers’ scoring defense (63.1 ppg) is ranked 30th nationally. Individually, Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) is eighth in the nation in total steals (34) and steals per game (2.83).

LAST SEASON VERSUS MURRAY STATE: The Tigers defeated Murray State on Jan. 16, 2016 by a 73-71 final score at the Gentry Center. Tahjere McCall (Philadelphia, Pa.) hit the game-winning floater with 2.5 seconds left for TSU’s first win over Murray State since Feb. 9, 2012. McCall led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds. Wayne Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished two boards shy of a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds.
