Tigers End Trip with Game Against Saint Francis

JERSEY CITY, N. J. – Finishing up the Barclay’s Tournament, the Tennessee State University men’s basketball team will take on Saint Francis of Brooklyn for the consolation game at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the Yanitelli Center.

The Tigers (2-4) and the Terriers (0-4) have never met in either school’s history. This will be the fourth new team that TSU has faced this year.

Christian Mekowulu made his debut Friday night in a big way, scoring 13 points in 24 minutes. He led the team in scoring. He gives the team a post presence it hasn’t had thus far into the season. TSU would pit his physical play up against the Terriers of Saint Francis on Saturday.

The Terriers are coming off of an overtime loss to the Spartans in the first game on Friday at the Yanitelli Center. Norfolk State battled back from two and three possession deficits with under 5:00 to play to force overtime. They took advantage from there, eating up rebounds on both sides of the floor.

The starting five for Saint Francis scored all but 14 of the team’s points for the game. Jalen Cannon led with 23 points while Brent Jones and Kevin Douglas had 11, apiece.

As a team, the Terriers put up 22 three-point attempts, but only made six of them.

Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m. EST. TSU will look to end their first road trip of the season with a win.
