MBB clinches spot in the 2011 OVC Tournament

Nashville, Tenn. - The Ohio Valley Conference has announced that the Tennessee State University men's basketball team has clinched a spot in the 2011 OVC Basketball Tournament.

The tournament will be held from March 2-5 at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.

The Tigers (11-15, 8-8 OVC) will make their seventh consecutive appearance and 22nd overall since joining the conference in 1986. In two years at the helm, head coach John Cooper has guided the Tigers to back-to-back spots in the tournament.

TSU joins six other teams in the OVC that have clinched weeks prior to the start of the tourney with UT Martin and Eastern Illinois still battling for the eighth and final spot. Teams that have already clinched include: Murray State, Morehead State, Austin Peay State, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri State.

For most teams, two conference games still remain on their schedule. Championship seeding will be determined at a later date. For more information about the this year's OVC Tournament, click here.

This week, TSU will play a non conference match-up in the ESPN Sears BracketBusters when they host Delaware State on Saturday, Feb. 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside the Gentry Center.
