Monday, November 15, 2010

Nashville, Tenn. - A strong rivalry will be resurrected when the Tennessee State University Tigers host the Fisk University Bulldogs in basketball action, Monday, Nov.1 5, at the Gentry Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.

TSU holds a 10-3 record in the all-time series when facing their Jefferson St. neighbors. The Tigers won the last four meetings including a 101-69 victory in exhibition play on Nov. 6, 2007 in front of nearly 7, 000 fans.

The Tigers (0-1) are coming off a season opening 75-65 loss to Mississippi State last Friday at Humphrey Coliseum. Robert Covington, Kenny Moore, and Patrick Miller each scored 13 points. Covington and Moore tied a team-high seven rebounds as TSU took the lead twice in the game but were victims to a late run by MSU.

For Fisk, the Bulldogs come off their first win of the season at home against Hiawassee College on Saturday. The Bulldogs are led by returning starter and last year's leading scorer Michael Broadnax (13.5 ppg),along with top rebounder Devardo Williams (7.5 rpg).

The last time Fisk won versus TSU was during their years in NCAA Division II play. In 2003, The Bulldogs won, 65-63, also winning the year before, 69-65, making national headlines as one-of-two Divison II teams to defeat a Division I team.

Up next, TSU will hit the road again when they head to Normal, Ill. to match-up against Illinois State. The game is slated for Nov.17 at 7 p.m. in Redbird Arena
