Covington Grabs OVC Freshman of the Week Honors

Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University basketball's Robert Covington was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for Monday, November 16, 2009.

Covington wins the award during the first week of play of the 2009-10 basketball season. A native of Bellwood, Ill., Covington scored a team-high 21 points in Tennessee State's 85-63 loss to Siena (USA Today Coaches Poll No. 27). He connected 8-of-14 field goal attempts, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range while pulling down two rebounds.

In the previous week, Covington tallied a double-double, 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds, in the Tigers 91-62 exhibition win over Trevecca Nazarene.

Covington garners the first OVC weekly award for TSU during the 2009-10 athletic season.
