MBB's Covington named mid major stud of the night

Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State University men's basketball freshman Robert Covington was named mid-major stud of the night for his performance in the Tigers, 109-102, conference win over Tennessee Tech on Monday night (2/15).

Covington was held scoreless in the first half but scored five points in the closing minutes of regulation and posted 19 points in extra play. Covington managed his first collegiate double-double with career-highs, 24 points and 12 rebounds, to go with two blocks.

On the season, he has managed to score in double figures on 15 occasions and pulled in 10 or more rebounds in three games.

The Bellwood, Ill. native is TSU's second leading scorer averaging 10.9 points per game and is the team's leading rebounder with 6.2 per game.

He was selected by highly noted senior college basketball writer Jeff Goodman.

The Tigers will return to action when they face Jacksonville State in OVC play on Coaches vs. Cancer and Senior Night. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17, inside the Gentry Center with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. The match-up is a rescheduled game from Feb. 2.
