Nashville, Tenn. - Darius Cox tallied a double-double scoring 21 points (10-of-14) while hauling in 11 rebounds, Gerald Robinson Jr. and Jerrell Houston each added 20 points to help lead the Tigers past Trevecca Nazarene in exhibition play Wednesday night in the Gentry Center, 101-75.
TSU led after the first half shooting 55 percent from the field. Freshman Parker Smith made his debut as a Tiger hitting 6-of-11, 4-of-9 from behind the arch, for 17 points. Smith and Cox led all scorers with 10 points at the break, giving TSU the lead at halftime, 48-27.
In the second half, TNU clawed back in the game with a 10-2 run in the early minutes closing the lead to11 points. The Trojans were led by Matthew Elliot's game-high 30 points, shooting 12-of-15 from the field with 5-of-6 from three-point range.
The Tigers' defense clamped down on the Trojan runs. After getting in foul trouble early in the game, Stephen Evans helped lead the Tiger charge scoring 10 of his 12 points in the half.
The Tigers extended their lead shooting 52 percent from the field and 62 percent from three-point land. TSU finished the game hitting 51 percent (30-of-58) from the field, 59 percent from behind the arch (10-of-17) and 56 percent from the free throw line (5-of-9).
The Tigers will host the Thorobreds of Kentucky State November 11th at the Gentry Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
