TSU Picked to Finish Fifth in Conference Race

Tennessee State University senior forward Jerrell Houston and sophomore guard Gerald Robinson, Jr. have been named to the 2008-09 Preseason All- Ohio Valley Conference Men’s basketball team. The Tigers as a team were tabbed to finish fifth in the ten team league race. The preseason All-Conference team and predicted order of finish were voted on by the OVC Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors.

Jerrell Houston, a 6-8, 215 forward from Memphis, Tennessee is one of three starters returning for the Tigers. Last season he averaged 11.6 ppg and 6.1 rpg in his first full season playing for the Tigers since his transfer from Mississippi State.

Gerald Robinson, Jr., a 6-1, 185 guard from Nashville, Tennessee, is the top returning scorer for TSU finishing last year with a 15.2 ppg average. Robinson was named to the OVC All-Newcomer team last year and was runner-up for Freshman of the Year honors.

Tennessee State finished the 2007-08 season 10-10 (fifth) in the OVC, but made a run to the OVC Tournament Championship game after wins over No. 4 seed Morehead State and No. 2 seed Murray State.

TSU head coach Cy Alexander enters his sixth season at TSU and his twenty-third overall.
