Tigers go head-to-head with UT Martin

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men’s basketball team will look to get back on track this weekend with Saturday night’s match-up with UT-Martin in the Gentry Center.


The Tigers (6-16, 4-8 OVC) have loss four straight and are coming off of an 88-58 loss to Murray State at home on Wednesday.


The Tigers currently have three players averaging double-figures in scoring. Gerald Robinson, Jr. leads all scorers with 17.2 points per game. Jerrell Houston comes in averaging 13.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg while Parker Smith notches 10.5 ppg. Darius Cox pulls down a team leading 6.8 rebounds in addition to 9.3 points per contest.


UT Martin (15-6, 8-3 OVC) is coming off of an 87-82 overtime win at Austin Peay on Thursday and has won seven of its last eight games. The Skyhawks are powered by OVC scoring leader Lester Hudson with 27.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Marquis Weddle averages 13.4 ppg for the Skyhawks.


Earlier this season, UT-Martin claimed the first meeting of the series 78-65 at Skyhawk Arena. Gerald Robinson, Jr. tallied 14 points while Darius Cox recorded a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers. Lester Hudson paced UTM with 30 points and 10 boards. Marquis Weddle (23) and Olajide Hay (15) also posted double-digts for the Skyhawks. 


The Tigers will hit the road for the last time this season for the next three games with the first stop at Jacksonville State (2/9/09). TSU will follow with games at Austin Peay (2/14/09) and Tennessee Tech (2/10/09).
