MOREHEAD, Ky. --- Tennessee State picked up an important Ohio Valley Conference road victory Thursday night as the Tigers held on to defeat host Morehead State 83-75. Senior forward Kareem Grant led TSU with 24 points, 14 coming in the opening half. Clarence Matthews scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half and posted his ninth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Wayne Arnold scored 17 points with all four field goals coming from 3-point range. Tennessee State (12-14, 10-9 OVC) built a 38-32 lead at halftime, connecting seven of their 14 field goals from 3-point range. The Tigers held their advantage despite a 21-14 rebounding edge by the Eagles. The Tigers quickly moved the lead into double digits in the second half and built their largest margin at 65-46 after a Matthews free throw with 8:01 left. Morehead State made a late push to pull to within 79-77 with 22 seconds left before the Tigers were able to put the game away from the free throw line. Both teams shot 49 percent (28-of-57) from the field. TSU made 10-of-26 field goals from 3-point range. Freshman Tyke Cockerham led the Eagles (4-22, 3-16) with 20 points while Shaun Williams added 19.
