JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- Jacksonville State's Walker Russell connected on a pair of free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining to lift Jacksonville State over Tennessee State by a 77-75 score Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference action. The Tigers led for much of the game until the Gamecocks rallied to take the lead down the stretch of the contest. TSU falls to 4-9 overall and 3-4 in the OVC. JSU improves to 6-8 and 4-4. TSU held a 54-45 lead after Reiley Ervin's 3-point field goal with 12:52 remaining. The Gamecocks fought back with a 17-5 run to take the lead. The teams swapped leads and Wayne Arnold erased a JSU lead by making 1-of-2 free throws with 25 seconds left. The Gamecocks then played for the final shot when the foul was called on Arnold with 2.1 seconds on the clock. Free throw shooting hampered the Tigers down the stretch as they made just 8-of-16 in the final half. JSU took advantage of its chances, making 16-of-19. TSU shot 58 percent from the field (26-of-45) for the game. Clarence Matthews led the Tigers with a career high 25 points, making 9-of-10 field goals. Kareem Grant added 15, Reiley Ervin 13, and Courtney Bohannon scored 10. Dorien Brown led the Gamecocks while Russell and B.J. Spencer each scored 11.
