NASHVILLE --- Clarence Matthews, a 6-7, 250-pound power forward from Los Angeles City College, has signed to continue his collegiate basketball career with Tennessee State University, Tigers head coach Cy Alexander has announced. Matthews, who is from Beaumont, Texas, is the first signee of the spring signing period. He will have two seasons of eligibility with the Tigers. "We feel very good about Clarence joining our program," said Alexander. "He is a blue collar player who brings us physical toughness on the low block." This past season for coach Michael Miller's LACC team, Matthews helped lead the team to a 27-4 overall record. He averaged 10 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots a game for the Cubs. Matthews is the third player from LACC that has signed with the Tiger program under the direction of Alexander. Wayne Arnold and Kareem Grant signed last spring and each made solid contributions in their first seasons with the Tigers.
