NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State's Rod Flowers has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for his performances in the Tigers season opening games. A 6-9, 240-pound post player from Huntsville, Ala., Flowers combined for 40 points and 17 rebounds in the Tigers' games at Western Kentucky and Vanderbilt. He was 17-31 from the field overall, and hit a 3-pointer in each of the game. Flowers tallied 22 points at EKU and followed with an 18-point effort at Vandy. Flowers is enrolled in graduate school at TSU and transferred for his senior year of play from Cincinnati. The award for Flowers comes in the first week of the awards presented by the OVC Office. The conference office selects the player, newcomer, and freshman of the week each Monday afternoon during the course of the season.
