NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State opened the Ohio Valley Conference portion of its schedule on a successful note, rolling to a big 88-74 win over Jacksonville State Thursday night in the Gentry Center. The win gave first-year TSU Head Coach Cy Alexander a victory in his first OVC game and the Tigers snapped an 18-game OVC regular season losing streak dating back to the 2001-02 season. "It is great to open OVC play with the win," said the Tigers head coach. "I am real proud of the team and I am really happy for the players." Freshman guard Bruce Price tallied a career-high 38 points to lead the Tigers. Jeremy Jackson tallied 17 and Roshaun Bowens added 13. TSU led 41-25 at halftime and built its largest lead at 20 points (88-68) with 1:55 remaining in the game. The Tigers shot 62 percent in the opening half and 55 percent for the game. Jacksonville State, a first year member of the OVC, falls to 6-7 and 0-3. Russell Walker and Josh Perry each scored 15 points for the Gamecocks. TSU hosts Samford at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The game time was moved from the original starting time of 7 p.m.
