NASHVILLE --- Adrian Pritchett connected on a jump shot right off the free throw line as the final horn sounded to lift the Tennessee State Tigers to a 73-71 season-opening win over Trevecca Tuesday night.
The victory gave TSU head coach Cy Alexander a victory in his first contest as the Tigers head coach. Trevecca falls to 4-3 with the tough defeat.
The Tigers trailed 37-33 at halftime and came back to lead by six points three times, the last at 66-60 with 4:30 remaining. The Trojans Curtis Lewis hit a baseline jumper with eight seconds remaining to tie the game at 71-71.
Pritchett then took the inbounds pass and drove down court for the winning shot.
TSU was led by junior Roshaun Bowens who scored all 19 of his points in the second half. Bowens also had a game-high 10 rebounds. Garrett Richardson tallied 14 of his 16 points in the opening half. Bruce Price, who was injured late in the game, scored 14.
Wesley Poe led the Trojans (4-3) with 16 points. Trevecca shot well from the field, converting 60 percent of its shots (29-48).
Tennessee State plays at Tennessee on Friday night.
