NASHVILLE --- With two exhibition games under its belt, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team is set to tip off the 2002-03 regular season. The Tigers will host cross-town foe Trevecca University Friday night in the Gentry Center at 7 p.m. Coach Nolan Richardson, III begins his third season at the Tiger helm and returns several key performers for the upcoming season. The new players got their first taste of action with the two exhibition games heading into the regular season. The Tigers had a busy night on Wednesday in their final tune-up. It took a pair of overtimes, but TSU was able to prevail over the Nashville All-Stars 110-105. Junior Garrett Richardson led five TSU players who scored in double figures with 33 points. Josh Cooperwood added 29. Rounding out the Tigers double figure scorers were Roshaun Bowens 14, Adrian Pritchett 13, and Reshawne Bowers 11. Both Pritchett and Bowers are incoming freshmen players. The Tigers will face a Trevecca team that has four regular season games under its belt. The Trojans are 2-2 on the season with both losses coming to Lambuth University in a regular season game and in the first round of the Belhaven Tournament. The Trojans have wins over Free Will Baptist 117-65 and Oakwood 101-84. The game with Trevecca will be the first of two games for TSU to open the season at home.
