NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State trailed by just one point at halftime (39-38), but Eastern Kentucky shot 70 percent and scored 70 points in the final half in handing the Tigers a 109-83 loss Saturday night.
The game was tied nine times in the first 20 minutes, but EKU came out with a 14-2 run to open the second half and made 23-33 field goals in the final half to coast to the win. Ben Rushing came off the bench to lead EKU with 27 points, connecting on six 3-pointers.
TSU shot 53 percent in the first half, but just 30 percent in the final half. Josh Cooperwood scored TSU’s first seven points of the game and finished with 27 points for the contest. Roshaun Bowens scored 12, and Garrett Richardson and Cedric Bryson each scored 10 points.
The Tigers will have a full week off to regroup. The Tigers play at Tennessee-Martin, Jan. 11.
