NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State’s Chris Rowland has been named to the HERO Sports Preseason All-America team, as announced on Thursday. Rowland was selected as a third team return specialist.
Rowland enters his final campaign after totaling 219 return yards in 2018. Rowland ranked sixth in the nation, averaging 13.0 yards on 14 punt returns a year ago. The seniors’ lone kickoff return last year went for 37 yards.
The Nolensville, Tenn. product was a 2016 HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-American after setting the TSU single season records in kickoff returns (42) and kickoff return yards (965). In his initial season with the Big Blue, Rowland averaged 23.0 yards per kick return, 8.5 yards on punt returns and 124.5 all-purpose yards.
Rowland amassed 963 all purpose yards as a junior, leading the receiving corps with 57 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns. Rowland and the Tigers open camp on Aug, 1 in preparations for the upcoming season which begins on Saturday, Aug. 31 versus Mississippi Valley State in the John Merritt Classic at Nissan Stadium.
