Brown and Taylor Earn Top Academic Awards

NASHVILLE --- In addition to highlighting athletic accomplishments during the virtual awards banquet, Tennessee State recognized student-athletes for their academic achievements.

The Top Scholar award is given to the senior male and female who hold the highest cumulative GPA amongst all athletes. With the discretion of Athletics Administration, the award may be given to juniors in the event that a senior does not hold the highest cumulative GPA on their respective team.

The 2019-20 Female Academic Award winner was Amani Taylor, a senior Tigerbelle from Georgia. During her TSU career she earned a number of academic recognitions, including:  2016-17 OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll, 2016-17 OVC Academic Medal of Honor, 2017-18 OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll , 2017-18 OVC Academic Medal of Honor  and 2018-19 OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Following graduation, Taylor will attend the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

The Top Male Academic Award went to football student-athlete Justin Brown. The junior linebacker from Smiths Station, Ala. majors in Health Sciences. He earned 2017-18 OVC Academic Medal of Honor, 2017-18 OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll  and 2018-19 OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll honors.

Brown currently has a 3.8 GPA and will return next year for his senior campaign.

The Academic Achiever Award is given to the individuals who have been enrolled at the university for at least one academic year with the highest cumulative GPA on their respective team. The 2019-20 winners are below:
