Newbold Named to STATS Freshman of the Year Watch List

NASHVILLE --- Wide Receiver Steven Newbold has been named to the STATS FCS National Freshman of the Year Watch, as announced on Tuesday.

Newbold is one of 17 players named to the watch list. The award will be selected by a national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries who will vote on the FCS freshman player of the year following the regular season.

Newbold has been a big part of a passing game that is 7th in the nation in yards per completion (15.53) and 20th in scoring at 33.6 points per game. The true freshman has caught 25 passes for 550 yards with three touchdowns and is ranked third in the country with 22.0 yards per completion.

The Carol City, Fla. was named adidas OVC Newcomer of the Week on Oct. 9 for his performance at Eastern Illinois. Newbold hauled in four passes for 121 yards including a 44-yard touchdown.
