NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Defense was the name of the game as the Tennessee State football team held its second scrimmage of the spring season on Saturday at Hale Stadium on campus. It was the final scrimmage before the Blue and White game set for Saturday, April 16, at Hale Stadium at 3 p.m.
Like last week, the day began with 7-on-7 plays before jumping into 11-on-11. TSU’s defense had the upperhand throughout most of the scrimmage, holding the offense to limited production on the day.
Defensive back Laquarius Cook (Birmingham, Ala.) set the tone for the defense with a pass breakup on the first play from scrimmage. The defense forced a punt on the opening drive and a three-and-out on the second drive.
David Kamara (Logansville, Ga.) also produced a positive play from his defensive back position with an interception and a strong return.
On the offensive side of the ball, Erick Evans (Dallas, Texas) busted off one of the top plays on a run off an option play for 20 yards off right tackle. Converting a fourth-down play, Andrew Knox (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) picked up a 20-plus yard run to the left side to aid the offense on the day.
Admission to next Saturday’s Blue and White game at Hale Stadium is free.
