Butler Leads TSU Offense on CFPA Watch List

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – TSU quarterback Ronald Butler earned a spot on the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Awards Watch List.

Butler is the fourth Tiger to earn a spot on the 2014 CFPA Watch List, joining defensive lineman Anthony Bass, defensive back De'Ante Saunders, and 2013 CFPA Defensive Back Award winner Daniel Fitzpatrick.

Last season, Butler started ten games under center, and saw action in the other four. The Tallahassee, Fla. native completed 135-of-230 pass attempts for 1,405 yards with 13 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

His freshman campaign culminated in being named to both the All-OVC Second Team and the league’s All-Newcomer Team.

The initial watch list includes 36 returning performers, vying for the top quarterback award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.

The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
