Fitzpatrick, Saunders Tabbed to CFPA Watch List

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – TSU's Daniel Fitzpatrick and De'Ante Saunders have earned spots on the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS Awards Watch List.

Fitzpatrick is returning to TSU for the 2014 season as the winner of the 2013 CFPA Defensive Back Award. He won the honor after leading Division I with eight interceptions and adding 75 tackles.

Saunders who was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team at season’s end, added four picks and broke up a team-high nine passes.

The initial watch list includes 38 defensive backs, vying for the top defensive back award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.

Tennessee State is one of six programs with multiple players on the defensive back watch list (joining North Dakota State, Stetson, Southeastern Louisiana, Sacred Heart, and Saint Francis).

The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
